Many people find it difficult to incorporate a regular fitness routine into their lives. I’ve found a solution that I can unequivocally recommend for anyone who has tried the gym but prefers to work out in the comfort of their own home – Daily Burn. Or maybe you’re like me and you like to mix home workouts with gym sessions for variety, while getting your full weekly quota of exercise without leaving the house early in the morning or getting home late.
There’s one caveat, you need to be self-motivated. But don’t worry if you need help in that area, Daily Burn has graphs to chart your progress and a goal-setting tool to keep you on track.
What is Daily Burn?
Daily Burn provides online fitness instruction with over 1000 workouts for all ability levels, taught by expert, certified trainers. Videos can be streamed through your laptop, tablet, phone (there are apps available), Apple TV, Fire TV and devices like Roku, Xbox and more. Meal plans, recipes and healthy living tips are some of their additional resources to ensure you achieve your holistic wellness goals. You also get access to the Official Daily Burn Community closed Facebook group where you’ll find support, motivation, and expert advice from their trainers.
Amazing Results
In my case, the results exceeded my expectations. I followed the Inferno programme with dynamo trainer Anya Garcia. She’s an ex-gymnast powerhouse who motivates you to push yourself beyond what you thought you could do – “You got this!” “C’mon, finish strong!”
By the time I got halfway through the 21 day-schedule, thanks to the combination of the workouts and the meal plan, I couldn’t believe the level of toning and definition I saw when I looked in the mirror. I felt like a new person!
I had been exercising on and off for many years but never before did I engage in physical activity seven days a week – intense workouts interspersed with days for flexibility and mobility. I had also cut out dairy, gluten and anything with more than 10g of added sugar per serving – a diet I still maintain to this day for 99% of the year. I lost nine pounds and most importantly my pesky belly fat finally disappeared. I owe it all to Daily Burn! That was 2014 and I haven’t looked back since.
Exercising with an Injury
Daily Burn was there for me as I struggled to regain my strength after a bout of chikungunya. Even after knee surgery and continuing knee problems as the result of a car accident, I can find programmes to suit my new low-impact reality, and there’s always someone in the more difficult workout videos who’s doing a modified version that I can adopt. Both after chikungunya and the surgery, I started with the True Beginner programme and worked my way back up to a more advanced level. True Beginner is ideal for anyone who is new to exercising or starting over. And I don’t know what I would do without the Pilates and Yoga programmes which help with my range of motion and increase flexibility in my hamstrings to support my injured knee and help keep pain at bay. My husband has also found the yoga videos to be a huge help when he’s battling with lower back problems.
A Bit of Advice
At the “medium” and “hard” levels though, I would say it’s probably best to first have some experience under your belt with a personal trainer or in gym classes or where there’s an instructor to correct your technique as needed.
The Workouts
The ever-expanding library of videos includes previews, which are extremely helpful because you see what is involved in each workout. Before you begin, you can decide if the workout is right for you.
With 10-minute and 15-minute workouts there’s absolutely no excuse to set aside time to maintain a consistent exercise routine. The MMA workout is a personal high-intensity favourite of mine.
One of the latest additions is the Daily Burn 365 programme – fun full body workouts for 30 minutes every day, live or on-demand. The best part is that you don’t need any equipment.
In general, you’ll need an exercise mat and dumbbells are needed for some workouts. Certain programmes may list some specific types of required equipment such as kettle bells. However, in the Pilates programme, even when an exercise may include the pilates magic circle, the instructor gives you an alternative way to do the move without it if you don’t have one.
You can choose from programmes to fit any schedule, with so much variety you’re sure to find one that focuses on your main goal:
