Ten years ago, Nicha Farfan took a bold step that changed her life and the lives of many who want to have a healthier lifestyle.
She opened the Body Restoration Health Shop in Holetown, where you’ll find high-quality, all-natural products and whole food supplements. If you need specific hard-to-find ingredients for healthy recipes, this is the place to check. For example, if you’re on the keto diet, you’ll be pleased to know you can purchase MCT oil and other keto-friendly foods there.
Don’t Underestimate It – Size Doesn’t Matter
The store started out as a tiny operation upstairs in the West Coast Mall. Over time, it grew and is now adjacent to its first location. Discreetly situated behind the Rubis Gas Station in Holetown, it’s housed in a charming wooden complex. Don’t be fooled by its quaint size; you’ll find a wealth of essentials for a healthy diet, from fish oil to cacao nibs and Ayurveda-inspired artisanal dark chocolate.
Growing Interest in Healthy Lifestyles
Nicha believes we are lucky to be living in a time when there is so much accessible information about health and nutrition.
With the growing demand for healthier alternatives, even local cafés have approached Nicha, requesting a supply of nutrient-rich foods, like hemp seeds, to add to their shakes, etc.
Bio-Individuality
A certified health coach, her life-long interest in nutrition and constant research into natural products and health foods laid the early foundation.
“The Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s certification programme was an eye-opener,” she said.
One of the tenets of this widely acclaimed programme is that each person has their own unique bio-individuality, meaning that what works for one person may not work for another.
Nicha freely admits, “I went through a roller coaster ride. I was vegan and struggled for seven years before realizing that I need to eat meat.”
As she learned more, Nicha realised here in Barbados she couldn’t find several of the products she wanted to use. She investigated ways to have a regular supply and so the Body Restoration shop was born.
Her biggest challenge is negotiating with those in the supply chain to ensure she can offer customers the best prices possible, yet the opportunity to help others have healthy options makes it all worthwhile.
Trusted Recommendations
“I find that people get overwhelmed. I recommend Greens Plus+ Organic Superfood as a great blend to start with. It’s best to begin with a good plant-based protein,” Nicha advised. “It comes in flavours like Vanilla Chai and Wild Berry, and you can add your favourite fruit, chia seeds, hemp seeds and even some MSM sulfur.”
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound that is found naturally in every living organism, including many natural unprocessed foods, but it is quickly lost during the cooking process and as a result of modern farming practices. MSM has been touted recently as an essential anti-inflammatory nutrient, and it reportedly offers an array of amazing health benefits, such as detoxifying the body and increasing the production of collagen and keratin for healthy skin, hair and nails.
“When people try these products and realise how good they feel, they usually want to expand their horizons and will ask what I recommend.”
Nicha highly recommends Sun Potion products. These single-ingredient, whole food herbal supplements are good for brain health and so much more. “It’s what keeps me balanced, one of my new favourite products,” she adds.
“I like to test everything out on myself. I always stay up-to-date on new research and what’s trending. I don’t sell anything I don’t believe in. In fact, I am very upfront and transparent. If someone asks me which option I would choose, I tell them if it were me I would choose X product and I give them the specific reasons. People appreciate that and my customers trust me.”
How to Get Healthy
Nicha points out, “The reality is that if you want real vibrance, you have to put in the work. The best advice I can give is take the time to connect with your body and discover what works for you. Give yourself enough love to stay the course and be committed to living well. You owe it to yourself. Nobody can do that for you.”
I couldn’t have said it better.
